Shell Saudi Arabia unveils its unique gas-to-liquid tech

SHELL Saudi Arabia participated in the Saudi Water & Electricity Forum, the premier strategic meeting for water and electricity companies in Saudi Arabia, which was held recently at Al Faisaliah Hotel, Riyadh, under the patronage of  Abdullah A. Al Hussayen, Minister of Water & Electricity.

The exhibition brought together the government and the key players in KSA’s water and electricity industries such as Saudi Electricity Company, Wärtsilä, MAN, Siemens, General Electric and Doosan, to focus on the latest project developments, tenders, future plans and policy updates in these sectors. The Forum attracted more than 2,000 visitors – predominantly CEOs, Chairmen, Technical Specialists, Decision Makers and Technologists.

On its stand at the show, Shell Lubricants displayed a complete line-up of its products, including the remarkable transformer and turbine oils, Shell Turbo S4 GX & Shell Diala S4 ZX-I respectively, with its unique Gas-to-Liquids technology, which is marketed to customers in Saudi Arabia exclusively by Shell Saudi. Shell’s Gas-To-Liquids (GTL) technology converts natural gas – the cleanest-burning fossil fuel – into high-quality liquid products that would otherwise be made from crude oil. These products include motor oils, transformer and turbine oils. GTL products are colorless and odorless. They contain almost none of the impurities – sulfur, aromatics and nitrogen – that are found in crude oil.

This unique technology is now applicable in the Shell Diala range of transformer oils which helps to protect equipment and to ensure efficient operation throughout its lifetime and to meet the demands imposed by the reduced size, increased loads, higher voltages and longer operational lifetimes of today’s transformers. Shell Turbo S4 GX is also based on Gas-To- Liquids technology and has been developed to meet the demands of the latest high-efficiency turbine systems, designed to offer outstanding, long-term performance under the most severe operating conditions minimizing deposit and sludge formation even incyclic peak loading conditions.

Shell also took advantage of the Forum to highlight its technical services to customers through Shell Lube Advisor, which can advise companies on which oil to use to improve efficiency and reduce operating costs. Shell Lube Analyst helps identify potential oil or equipment failures before they become critical. Shell Lube Coach delivers better performance through this in-depth lubrication training programme. Shell Lube Match is a free online service enabling customers to find the right lubricants for vehicles and equipment in seconds. Shell Lube Video Check is fiber-optic tool that allows inspection of the inside of an engine without dismantling it. Shell Lube Van is a quick and efficient diagnostic tool for lubricant applications. Customers can also monitor the condition of their lubricants, vehicles and equipment through Shell Lube Van.

At the event, Waqar Siddiqui, Al Jomaih Shell CEO, after meeting the Minister of Water & Electricity, said: “The Saudi Water & Electricity Forum has achieved tangible results thanks to the large visitor turnout. The event has given us an outstanding platform to introduce our product lines, including our unique Gas-To-Liquids technology. The show also helps us stay in touch with our existing OEM customers and make contact with potential new ones.”

He further explained that Shell’s presence at the Forum emphasized its business strategy of participation in high-class trade shows to promote its latest and most advanced products, such as Shell Diala & Shell Turbo, which reflect the evolution of its product design and technology. He added: “We have strategic partnerships with most OEMs, and we build strong relationships with our customers. That’s why our interaction with the public at the show has been of great importance to us, as we seek to demonstrate the unique features of GTL technology and its ability to protect equipment while ensuring optimum performance, even in extreme operating conditions.”

Siddiqui said Shell lubricants provide the highest performance to transformers and turbine, making it the number one choice for customers in the Saudi market.

Haroon Jabbar, Technical Manager at Shell Saudi Arabia, made a presentation about GTL technology and its important benefits for relevant applications in the power sector. He then concluded by explaining Shell’s value-added technical services, such as Lube Analyst, Lube Coach, Lube Advisor, Lube Match, Lube Video Check and Lube Van.
