Saudi, US officials discuss cooperation in digital economy, technology investment

Senior officials from Saudi Arabia and the US met for talks on boosting digital cooperation and technology investment in the Kingdom.
Saudi Minister of Communications and Information Technology  Abdullah Al-Sawaha held discussions with a high-level delegation from the American Federal Communications Commission (FCC), including its chairman Ajit Pai, along with a number of US information and communication technology (ICT) officials.
During talks, the two sides discussed the exchange of experiences in the digital transformation field, in addition to stimulating the growth of digital communities by creating an infrastructure to support modern technologies and promote the use of their applications.
Al-Sawaha highlighted to the Americans the Kingdom’s regulatory reforms and policies which had contributed to the expansion of the Saudi ICT sector and, in turn, encouraged investment in the country’s digital infrastructure and research and development centers.
He called on US companies to strengthen their presence in Saudi Arabia, which he said was a promising digital center for prosperity in the region.
The meeting also discussed digital economy issues and the role of networks and modern technologies in supporting the expansion of government services and providing greater access to broader horizons that serve digital transformation. It also emphasized the importance of developing the digital capacities of the youth.
