Saudi minister highlights importance of humans in ‘powering change’

Days after Saudi Arabia made history by becoming the first country to grant citizenship to a robot, the Kingdom’s communication minister, has been speaking of the importance of humans in powering change.
Saudi Arabia considers humans to be pivotal to international development, Abdullah bin Amer Al-Sawaha, minister of telecommunication and IT, told delegates at the International Union for Communication conference in Dubai.
Al-Sawaha pointed out that Saudi Arabia has successfully extended the fiber optic network to more than 700,000 homes out of the target 2 million to be networked by 2020.
He said that the ministry aims to increase women’s contribution to the labor market from 22 percent to 30 percent by 2030, a projected 3 percent in the non-oil gross domestic product.

He called on the world community, led by the International Union for Communications, to create and enforce an international law to control the Internet and protect national and personal data from cyberattack.
