SAR 227 million to Reduce Overflow of Wastewater

The NWC announced that it has just finished linking the historical and central suburbs of Jeddah to the wastewater triple treatment plant in Alkhamrah 4, south of Jeddah through a wastewater transport pipeline.

The pipeline is 3000 mm in diameter, cost SAR 227 million and was built to reduce wastewater overflow in Al Querayat, Al Bey’ah Square, Port Street and other suburban areas.  It links to the southern tunnel and levitation plant before reaching the wastewater triple treatment plant.

The project began in mid-2014, and the completed pipeline has now been added to the works of protective maintenance program and maintenance pipeline cleaning.  Maintenance began last week, and is expected to finish within the next five weeks.

This pipeline is part of the NWC’s strategic plans to develop infrastructure and raise the operational competence of both the water and environment sectors. The NWC is also working on executing 50 projects (SAR 8 billion) and awarding 12 future projects (SAR 1.2 billion) for developing Jeddah’s infrastructure, including expanding water and wastewater networks and house connections in the suburbs, establishing treatment plants and building strategic water tanks.
