The story started centuries ago, when Portuguese explorers set sail to the East in search of adventure, and the legendary spice route. Under Africa’s rich sun, they discovered the African Bird’s Eye Chilli or PERi- PERi, as it is now affectionately known. A Few hundred years later, it was the same unique PERi-PERi flavour that inspired Fernando Duarte to invite his friend Robbie Brozin to a humble Portuguese eatery in the heart of Johannesburg, South Africa to try some mouth-watering PERi-PERi chicken. It wasn’t just the best chicken Robbie had ever tasted; it was love at first bite!

Nando’s was founded in Johannesburg, South Africa, in 1987 by these two young entrepreneurs, and has since gone on to expand worldwide to over 23 countries across five continents.

The eagerly anticipated Nando’s PERi-PERi chicken restaurant will be opening on November 20th in Rubeen Plaza located near Exit 2 on the Northern Ring Road, introducing its world-famous flame-grilled PERi-PERi chicken – Fit for the Kingdom. This casual dining restaurant, which has become famous for its Afro-Portuguese style flame-grilled PERi-PERi chicken and cheeky identity and eclectic service style, is excited to be a part of the Riyadh community.

Every Nando's is meticulously designed and entirely unique, with earthy textures and vibrant colours that reflect its African-Portuguese heritage. With thousands of pieces of original works of Southern African art that are a continuous reminder of where the brands roots, Nando's is now believed to be the largest collector of Southern African contemporary art in the world, with over 11 000 pieces.
