King to give away Faisal Awards

Custodian of the Two Holy Mosque King Salman is to present the awards to winners of the King Faisal Prize at the Faisaliah Hotel on Wednesday.

Extensive arrangements are being made to host the king and the winners at a glittering event which will be held in the presence of members of the royal family, ministers, diplomats and other dignitaries at the Prince Sultan Grand Hall of the hotel.
The award, sponsored by the King Faisal Foundation, was established in 1976 by the eight sons of the late King Faisal. Each of the five prize categories consists of a certificate hand-written in Arabic calligraphy summarizing the laureate’s work, a commemorative 24-carat, 200-gram gold medal, uniquely cast for each prize, and a cash award of SR750,000 ($200,000). The co-winners in any category share the monetary grant.
In January, eight distinguished scholars from various parts of the world, including a top Saudi scholar, were announced winners of the prize.
The King Faisal International Prize for Service to Islam was awarded to Grand Mosque Imam and former Shoura Council Chairman Saleh bin Humaid.
Professor Abdullah bin Yousif Al-Ghunaim, president of the Kuwaiti Studies and Research Center, was the winner of the King Faisal International Prize for Islamic Studies .
The prize for Arabic Language and Literature was awarded to professors Mohammed Al-Ghazawani Muftah from Morocco and Mohammed Abdul Muttalib Mustafa from Egypt.
Professors Han Grrit Brunner and Joris Andre Veltman from the Netherlands shared the prize for medicine for clinical application of next-generation genetics.
The King Faisal Prize for biology was shared by professors Vamsi Krishna Mootha from the US and Stephen Philip Jackson from the UK.
