Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Wife of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah and Chairperson of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs, has underlined the importance of values, education and culture for achieving stability in society.

 

Making her remark while receiving HE Barbara A. Leaf, U.S. Ambassador to the UAE, Her Highness stated that such considerations play a key role in encouraging individuals to live with one another and coexist in harmony, regardless of their nationalities, faiths or affiliations, as humanity is the common denominator of the people around the world.

 

Her Highness’s meeting with the U.S. ambassador was aimed at strengthening joint ties between the two countries and exploring the social and cultural experience of the Emirate of Sharjah. It highlighted Sharjah’s sustainable attention to children and women and its leading role in providing them with educational and professional opportunities for full empowerment.

 

“We are proud of our institutions that make enormous efforts to fulfil the duties entrusted to them and to spread the intended message among all segments of society. We are used to working as a team to advance the community through our devotion to education, culture and healthcare and to present a dignified portrayal of the Emirate of Sharjah and the UAE,” said Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher Al Qasimi.  

 

Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher Al Qasimi praised the friendly relations between the UAE and the USA, underlining the importance of strengthening joint cooperation in health, cultural and educational spheres. Her Highness also discussed impressions about her visits to the USA to take part in a number of initiatives related to cancer and non-communicable diseases (NCDs) in addition to the ventures aimed at the empowerment and support of women.

 

HE Barbara A. Leaf praised the vision of Her Highness and the support she gives to institutions in the community in Sharjah that care for all segments of society, in particular children, young adults and women. Her Excellency praised the initiatives of her Highness that are dedicated to childhood, mothers, healthcare, education and women empowerment in the UAE and beyond.

 

The U.S. ambassador to the UAE expressed her delight in visiting the Emirate of Sharjah, saying; “Every time I come to Sharjah I discover something new and different. I am extremely impressed with the art and heritage on display at the emirate’s variety of exhibitions and installations and its array of cultural activities that serve individuals in exceptional ways. It is also clear that Sharjah is committed to establishing highly effective organisations that work to enhance the status of children and women, something that I congratulate everyone one involved in them on.”

 

During her visit, the U.S. ambassador met directors and managers of organisations that operate under the umbrella of the Executive Office of Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher Al Qasimi and was given insights into their initiatives and achievements. She received a review of their respective activities, with a special focus placed on forthcoming programmes that are in alignment with the vision and directions of Her Highness.

 

The initiatives that were evaluated included the establishment of the Sharjah Family Court, the launch of the family strategy at the Department of Family Development Centre and the setting up of the NAMA Women Advancement Establishment, which comprises a number of bodies relevant to women’s empowerment economically and professionally.

 

During the visit the heads of the relevant departments discussed the monthly ‘Marami Magazine,’ issued by the SCFA, which is dedicated to family and societal issues as well as reviewed the ‘Thati’ graduate mentorship programme at the Reyada Centre for Learning and Development, which is aimed at allowing youth to hold leadership positions through an intensive two-year training programme. They also explored Sharjah’s Youth Shura Council, organised by Sharjah Youth, as well as a number of other programmes and activities that are concerned with advancing the community.
