First national IT conference in Jeddah

The first national computer faculties’ conference will held at King Abdulaziz University from February 17 to 18, with organizers saying the conference is aimed at developing educational processes and scientific research in the Kingdom to meet international standards.

A number of the Kingdom’s colleges and universities that focus on computer and information technology will be attending the conference.

The dean of King Abdulaziz University’s computing and IT faculty, Abdulrahman Bin Hilal Al-Talhai, said: “The conference is the first of its kind and it is a forum at the level of computer colleges in Saudi universities and the conference will be, God willing, a unique opportunity to showcase the latest scientific research, international practices and developments in the provision of specialized academic programs at the university level. It will also explore the expected developments in this scientific field and how to use them.”

The conference adopts a concept of “educate the system” by providing a scientific platform to share success stories in academic, research and administrative practices among the Kingdom’s computer colleges as well as looking at ways to benefit from successful experiences in order to improve the performance and output of colleges.

A number of international academics from the United Kingdom, Spain, the United States and Canada are participating in the conference and providing their experience at their respective universities during panel discussions.

Abdulrahman said the conference will have several topics focused on developing lesson plans, direct training and practical application of academic accreditation and quality assurance, along with education-based laboratory classes, as well as project management and task forces, the relationship between colleges outputs and the labor market and the partnership between technical colleges, companies and the development of scientific research.

He said that the scientific committee would oversee the establishment of the first national competition in computer programming on the sidelines of the conference.
