Emirates Diplomatic Academy Signs Training and Research MoU with Uruguay’s Artigas Foreign Service Institute of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs

The Emirates Diplomatic Academy (EDA) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with The Artigas Foreign Service Institute of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Oriental Republic of Uruguay. The agreement opens doors for collaboration in the academic, training and research fields to enhance the professional skills of diplomatic corps in the two countries.

His Excellency Nelson Yemil Chaben Labadie, Ambassador of the Oriental Republic of Uruguay to the UAE, and His Excellency Bernardino León, Director General of EDA, signed the MoU at EDA’s headquarters in Abu Dhabi.

The agreement reiterates the efforts of both nations to enhance strategic partnership and cooperation to effectively achieve mutual objectives of national interest. The MoU mandates EDA and The Artigas Foreign Service Institute to cooperate in research and exchange expertise on training for diplomats in the fields of foreign policy, from economic diplomacy and political analysis to international law and consensus building. 

The two sides will also join forces in basic and specialised training courses and exchange of educational material, including research, scientific publications and training manuals. They will share their experiences in organising work in libraries, educational and research institutions and archives. Faculty members, researchers and trainees of both institutions will also share foreign language courses and teaching methods, as well as embark upon exchange trips.  

Speaking on the occasion, His Excellency Nelson Yemil Chaben Labadie said: “This MoU marks an important step towards enhancing fruitful International cooperation in the field of education, training and research between our countries. We are proud of our partnership with EDA, the UAE’s leading international relations and diplomatic institution. EDA plays a vital role in promoting UAE diplomacy by qualifying its trainees through launching innovative initiatives and continually enhancing its curriculum. These steps ensure they are prepared to represent their country internationally in the best possible light.”

For his part, His Excellency Bernardino León said: “We are honoured to host His Excellency Nelson to sign this agreement, which reflects EDA’s unwavering dedication to expanding its outreach to various international academic institutions. The Artigas Foreign Service Institute of Uruguay is an internationally recognised and reputable institution of diplomacy and international relations.”

His Excellency León added: “Both parties believe in the importance of diplomacy and strengthening international relations in light of current global circumstances. We are confident our partnership will contribute to the development of EDA’s holistic educational, training and research centre of excellence. It will offer future UAE diplomats and their counterparts the opportunity to build relationships, establish dialogue, exchange ideas and diplomatic best practices, in addition to enhancing their understanding of the nature of diplomatic work. Ultimately, it will support our mission to prepare future leaders to finding effective solutions to pressing international issues, so they can achieve the objectives of the UAE's foreign policy and national interest.”

 

EDA is dedicated to providing a world-class educational experience in the field of diplomacy and international relations to prepare future UAE diplomats to lead international strategic initiatives. The Academy offers an integrated educational experience that enhances the capabilities of its trainees through advanced teaching methods, interactive lectures, exposure to leading international diplomatic institutions and discussions with prominent diplomats and policy makers.
