Burj Rafal Hotel Kempinski Takes Leadership Position in Providing Best Practices in Environmental Sustainability in Saudi Arabia

Riyadh: As an important milestone, Burj Rafal Hotel Kempinski in Saudi Arabia has achieved Bronze Benchmarking for environmental management and professional services by EarthCheck, the world’s leading and most credible scientific benchmarking, certification and advisory group for the travel and tourism industry, in appreciation of the hotel's commitment to preserving its cultural heritage and natural surrounds, such as reducing energy consumption, greenhouse gas emissions (scope 1 & 2), potable water consumption, and waste sent to landfill.
Since 1987, EarthCheck have helped businesses, communities and governments to deliver clean, safe, prosperous and healthy destinations for travellers to visit, live, work and entertain. Tourism is a US 1.4 trillion industry which directly affects the destinations it operators within. The environmental values and cultural assets that attract visitors to destinations should be protected and responsibly managed. The tourism industry and its operators are key to creating the required change.
Apart from achieving EarthCheck Benchmarking status, Burj Rafal Hotel Kempinski has launched a number of initiatives to get guests, associates and the community involved, such as a guestroom energy conservation system, use of recycled waste materials in hotel items, development of a sustainability webpage, donation of surplus food and promotion of vegetarian menus.
Further, in order to measure the effectiveness of their sustainability practices, Burj Rafal Hotel Kempinski engaged with EarthCheck to assess performances in various operational indicators, including energy consumption, waste management, recycling and community engagement.
Stewart Moore, CEO of EarthCheck, said that Burj Rafal Hotel Kempinski has taken a significant leadership position in sustainability.
Mr Moore added, “I would like to congratulate the whole team at Burj Rafal Hotel Kempinski on their achievement. Burj Rafal Hotel Kempinski is a valued member of a global group of tourism operators who dare to make a difference.”
By working with EarthCheck, Burj Rafal Hotel Kempinski has joined other industry leaders who are taking meaningful steps towards resolving some of the very real issues that face the planet.
