21 Teams Ready to Compete in the 11th Ramadan Women’s Sports Tournament

Sharjah Women’s Sports (SWS) has announced Ramadan Women’s Sports Tournament will take place from 8-14 May, with the participation of 21 teams in 4 sports including basketball, volleyball, shooting and archery.

 

Held under the patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Chairperson of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs and Chairperson of SWS, this year’s edition will highlight the importance of sports during the Holy month of Ramadan,  enhance athletes talents and abilities in order to compete in various tournaments. The Ramadan sporting event reflects SWS keenness to organizer year-long activities to keep the players in top-form which contribute to the advancement of women's sports locally and the Arab region.

 

HE Nada Askar Al Naqbi, General Director of SWS, said: "We are keen at SWS to organise sporting events and activities throughout the year to highlight the talents of our athletes, and provide the needed space for them to compete, show their talents and hone their abilities in preparation of future tournaments on a local and international levels.”

 

“As part of our strategy, we are on a continuous mission to provide the best environment for our players in all competitions and games, reflecting the vision of Her Highness Sheikha Jawahar bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, to provide a stimulating environment to encourage women to enter international sporting competitions, and highlight the advancement of female sports in Sharjah and the UAE,” she added.

 

First-place winners will receive monetary awards, in addition to daily draws with a variety of prizes will also be held for spectators, and half-time entertainment activities to gauge the audiuence.

 

Established in November 2016, under an Emiri Decree issued by His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohamed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, SWS aims to empower national women athletes and develop human capital in the field of women's sports. It also seeks to create a talented generation of women leaders in sports, encourage women's participation in different sports, foster sports culture and provide a stimulating environment that contributes to advancing women's sports.
