Iyad Madani, secretary general of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), has resigned.

Saudi Arabia has proposed Yousuf Al-Othaimeen, former minister of Social affairs, as the new secretary general of OIC, according to a statement issued on Monday by the general secretariat of OIC.

The statement attributed Madani’s resignation to health reasons, the Saudi Press Agency reported.

Madani took over in January 2014 as the 10th chief of the 56-member grouping of the Islamic world, as a successor of Turkish national Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu.
