The Tent School System in Pakistan wins Ericsson Technology for Good™ Award

The Tent School System from Pakistan was recognized at the Ericsson Innovation Awards with the special Technology for Good™ award of EUR3000. The Tent School System team from Pakistan consisted of team leader Zulqarnain Jameel and members Maryem Tanveer, Mahoor Obaid and Yasir Mustafa.

The Tent School System has a vision to eradicate illiteracy in Pakistan by the year 2020 by providing quality education to millions of children that are currently out of school through the use of modern technology. The Tent School currently operates in an Islamabad slum, offering free education to children who don’t even have the basic necessities. Operating since 2011, the school currently has 30 students. 

Zulqarnain Jameel; Team leader of the Tent School System says:  “ Ericsson Innovation Award competition is a great platform for young people to share their innovative world changing ideas. Being recognized with this award is very encouraging and it is motivating for us to continue using technology as a vital part of our project, and we can say every child will go to School” –

Over 4 million people are positively impacted through our Technology for Good™ initiatives where we combine mobility, broadband and cloud services to improve access to healthcare, education and livelihoods around the world”.

The Ericsson Innovation Award is open to all students from any academic institution around the world. With education playing a key role in the convergence towards Ericsson’s vision of a Networked Society – where everything that can be connected will be connected – the theme for 2015 was The Future of Learning, and 270 teams from 43 countries entered.
