SR2.5bn for Haj cleanup operation

Municipal and Rural Affairs Minister Abdul Lateef Al-Asheikh was briefed on Monday about the SR2.5 billion awarded to companies contracted to clean up the holy sites during this year’s Haj.
Al-Asheikh praised the country’s leaders and the various government and private agencies for providing top quality services for pilgrims performing the Haj this year.
In particular, he said, Makkah Gov. Prince Khaled Al-Faisal and Makkah Mayor Osama Al-Barr should be thanked for the vital role they have been playing in the city, a local publication reported.
Abdulsalam bin Sulaiman Mushat, undersecretary for services in the city, said cleaning operations have been in full swing since July 22 in 10 municipalities.
The cleaning contracts were awarded to several specialized companies, covering five cleaning zones in Makkah and the holy sites. These were worth over SR594.7 million, SR482.8 million, SR484.9 million, SR467.7 million, and SR518.5 million.
