Saudi Arabia crowns public cloud computing drive with around 5 cents kWh power

In line with Vision 2030’s ambition to drive growth across the digital economy, the Council of Ministers in Saudi Arabia approved a reduced electricity tariff bundle for public cloud computing operators based in Saudi Arabia.

Based on the new tariff bundle, cloud computing operators licensed by the Communications and Information Technology Commission will be charged 18 halala or around 4.8 cents per kilowatt/hour, among the cheapest in the world.

The new tariff bundle approval comes on the heals of two landmark announcements, bringing Google and Alibaba cloud services to the Kingdom through a combined investment of $1.5 billion, the largest regional tech investment to date.
