Mashroat signs MoU to enhance Makkah’s infrastructure

The National Project Management, Operation and Maintenance Organization in Public Entities (Mashroat) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Royal Commission for Makkah City and Holy Cities (MCHC). It will ensure international best practice in public facilities management is followed as the holy city embarks on a major construction project to develop transportation services and extend its accommodation provision.

The project is in line with the aspirations of Vision 2030 which aim to increase the number of pilgrims and Umrah visitors to the holy city to over 30 million each year.

As the state's enabling arm for infrastructure projects Mashroat will provide consultancy and technical support to MCHC in the areas of project management, operation and maintenance in order to enhance the effectiveness, efficiency and sustainability, and ensure all aspects of the project are in line with global best practice.

CEO of MCHC Abdul Eng. Abdulrahman bin Farouk Addas said: “We welcome this Memorandum of Understanding signed with Mashroat. It ensures the Royal Commission will adhere to best international practices in public facility management and will ensure pilgrims and visitors are provided with an infrastructure built following the highest standards”.

Director-General of Mashroat Ahmed Al-Balawi said: “Mashroat seeks through this cooperation to serve Makkah as the global religious destination which attracts millions of Muslims from all over the world. The signing of the Memorandum of Understanding with MCHC is part of Mashroat’s aim to improve and enhance facility management in Saudi Arabia by ensuring the highest standards of efficiency are met through the introduction of international level policies, a flexible environment and an increase in employee skills and capabilities. We are proud to work alongside MCHC and provide our consultancy and technical support on this important project for the holy city of Makkah.”

Mashroat is the Kingdom’s enabling arm for infrastructure projects and was established based on the Cabinet resolution in 1436H which states that public entities shall establish project management offices in cooperation with Mashroat to follow up, coordinate and manage their projects and ensure their delivery and all work will be done according to the model provided by Mashroat and the procedures and methodologies it has established.
