Jordan, Korea discuss cooperation in water sector

Eye Of Jordan:- Minister of Water and Irrigation Raed Abul Saud on Monday discussed with Korean Ambassador to Jordan Lee Jae-wan joint cooperation between the two countries, especially in the water sector.

The minister reviewed a number of projects that were implemented with Koran funding (estimated at 50 percent), while the rest of the funding was provided by the ministry itself.

These projects include a sewage plant south of Amman with a cost of $100 million, a project to expand the Wadi al-Seer water purification plant with a cost of $50 million, and a Korean grant of $16 million, of which $5 million were used to replace the Faqqu'/Karak water network and $7 million to replace the Kairouan/Jerash water network.

Abul Saud expressed keenness to increase Korean support for more projects in the water sector in the Kingdom.

He pointed out that Jordan adopted programs aimed at enhancing the available water resources despite the major challenges, and achieving fair distribution of water.

The minister pointed to the constructive and continuous cooperation between Jordan and Korea especially in the fields of water, sewage, reuse and integrated management of water sources as a new source for agricultural purposes to provide a similar amount of fresh water for drinking.

For his part, the envoy said that Korea is keen on supporting the water sector in Jordan including a number of water projects to enable it to overcome the obstacles in light of the increasing challenges.

He pointed to Korea's interest in supporting the success of Jordan's leading and strategic water projects and implementing advanced training programs on water resources management in the two countries to exchange expertise in the fields of water and sewage management, and to develop the skills of workers in the those fields.
