As investments in digital infrastructure continue to rise across the Kingdom, Huawei—a leading global provider of information and communications technology (ICT) infrastructure and smart devices—collaborated with a wide range of public and private sector leaders to examine the emerging technologies and policies that will help build a fully connected, intelligent Saudi Arabia. These discussions took center stage during the company’s annual Huawei Mobile Saudi Congress 2019, started recently in Olaya Tower, Riyadh. 

 

Visitors were able to experience cutting-edge global solutions being developed in fields such as end to end 5G Tech, the Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence (AI), and more. A host of regional and global Huawei experts also presented best practices in building applications for such technologies, including use cases that can support local businesses and government entities to pursue their digital transformation agenda.

 

Dennis Zhang, CEO at Huawei Saudi Arabia, said: “The Kingdom is home to a thriving ICT ecosystem that is on the cusp of a major evolution. Huawei has been a partner of choice for telecom carriers in Saudi Arabia for 5G network development in part because of its broad range of end-to-end 5G solutions covering terminals and network sites, architecture, protocols and network operations & maintenance. 

 

Telecom carriers in Saudi Arabia are already deploying some of the biggest 5G networks in the MENA region. Huawei has completed the 5G test with Saudi carriers, and will support Saudi Arabia speed up the 5G network rollout, there are 40 commercial 5G contracts signed between Huawei with operators around the world.

 

In addition to its work in 5G, Huawei is also actively engaging startups at the Congress by introducing visitors to the latest programs being run at the Huawei IoT Lab. It is the Kingdom’s first Internet of Things Lab and was announced in December 2018 by Huawei and the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) as a platform to support Saudi entrepreneurs in building IoT applications for local industries—from public water and electricity utilities to smart parking.

 

Huawei also previewed how the company’s full-stack, all-scenario AI solution will be able to help Saudi telecom carriers to significantly improve their operating efficiency, network performance, O&M efficiency, and user experiences.
