The world of motorsports has recently achieved a great milestone with the launch of the world-famous Dakar Rally from January 5th to January 17th, 2020, for the very first time in Saudi Arabia

The major challenge in Dakar 2020 was the location, as the new track is a totally uncharted territory for the racers, a land where sand is king, where well-known dangerous areas were explored during the 7500 KMs of the total track. Saudi Arabia proved a true testament to Dakar Rally as one of the “World’s toughest Rally”. 

The race started on 5th of January in Jeddah, passing through rigorous areas in the northern parts like Neom and Al-Ola where sand is mixed with hard rocks and then moving between the dunes of Wadi Aldawaser and the mysterious Empty Quarter before finally finishing the rally in Qiddya near Riyadh. 

Hino Motor Japan as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility takes very active parts in Dakar Rally since 1991. Hino has stellar records of winning the competition in its class of truck category. On the back of such record, Hino Team Sugawara participated in this first ever Dakar event on the Kingdom. Surrounded by the powerful trucks from other leading manufacturers in the rally, Hino stood alone as the only Japanese truck team to enter the race thus the nation pride rest on its shoulder. 

True to its tradition, Hino Team Sugawara proudly won the championship in under 10-liter category. This is the 11thconsecutive time for Team Sugawara to achieve this remarkable feat and proudly raised the Japanese and Hino flag on the podium on Saudi soil. 

On this occasion, Mr. Sugawara said “It was a very tough race, but it was an eye opener, Saudi Arabia is such a beautiful country that is worth exploring, we proved that our trucks still has the potential to conquer the Rally once again”.
