Dentist Direct Dubai supports ‘Live Mouth Smart’ on World Oral Health Day

Dentist Direct Dubai, a UK-based expert in dentistry offering a holistic approach to oral health,  supports World Oral Health Day (WOHD) by offering a dental education to students and faculty of GEMS Wellington Academy - Silicon Oasis on 20th March 2017, Monday.

In collaboration with Dubai Health Authority and Philips Oral Healthcare, Dentist Direct Dubai headed by Dr Neil Mitchell and Dental Hygienist Rachael England will present a series of lectures and interactive sessions to the community of GEMS Wellington Academy - Silicon Oasis.

The WOHD 2017 ‘Live Mouth Smart’ campaign focuses on smart ways to maintain and protect oral health throughout life. The campaign, places emphasis on the smart decisions that people can take about oral health throughout life by preventive measures – good oral hygiene, regular dental check-ups - and by self-managing oral disease risk factors – smoking, alcohol, sugar, etc - which are identical to those for other non-communicable diseases such as diabetes or cardiovascular disease.

An important event for the entire community, World Oral Health Day is an initiative that contributes to increasing the number of people in the world who never have oral health issues to over 10% of the world’s population. This is important because 90% of the world’s population will suffer from oral diseases in their lifetime and many of them can be avoided with increased governmental, health association and society support and funding for prevention, detection and treatment programs.

Dr. M. Banker, the Regional Head of Dentist Direct, said: “We are very excited to support this global campaign to educate students on the importance of looking after their oral health – not just for the sake of their smile, but for their overall well-being. World Oral Health Day is a great opportunity for the dental community to make a real difference in the state of oral health.”

Oral health is integral to the general health and well-being. It is fundamental for the ability to breathe, eat, swallow, speak, or even smile.  Impairment of functions related to oral health can seriously interfere with the ability to interact with others, attend school and work.
