SSMH launches its first awareness-raising campaign and associated exhibition at King Saud University

His Excellency Dr. Badran bin Abdulrahman Al-Omar, Dean of King Saud University, inaugurated on Monday morning the first awareness campaign for men's health and the associated exhibition organized by the Saudi Society for Men's Health (SSMH) in conjunction with the International Men's health month (Movember). The event was held in the presence of SSMH's Chairman of the Board, Prof. Saleh bin Saleh and the Board's members.

 

His Excellency Dr. Badran Al-Omar cut the ribbon to mark the launch of the campaign activities in the main lobby of King Saud University. He toured the sections of the associated exhibition, and was briefed on the activities of participants and their role in disseminating health culture and awareness as well as the equipment and medical examinations provided to visitors.

 

On the sidelines of his tour at the exhibition, Dr. Badran Al-Omar said: "This activity launched by the Saudi Society for Men's Health comes in line with the Kingdom's Vision 2030 which is aimed at improving the lifestyle of the individual and the family and building a society whose members enjoy healthy physical and mental health. The establishment of the SSMH under the umbrella of King Saud University was the first of its kind in the Kingdom and the region in terms of developing scientific and professional performance of health practitioners and raising the level of health awareness in the community with regard to men's health through the launch of awareness-raising programs and educational campaigns and seminars specialized in this area. "He expressed his thanks and appreciation to the SSMH's President and members of the Board for their efforts in organizing this event and the participation of the world in the International Men's Day (Movember).

 

For his part, Prof. Saleh Bin Saleh, SSMH's Chairman of the Board, said: "The first men's health awareness campaign that we are witnessing today comes in conjunction with the International Men's health month (Movember) annually celebrated in the world. These activities are aimed at intensifying the media content to disseminate the health culture related to men's health and all what men need to know about their physical and mental health and diseases that may strike them and ways of preventing and controlling them, to maintain a healthy lifestyle." He pointed to the SSMH's interest in the world participation in the promotion of men's public health and highlighting the latest scientific findings in the diagnosis and treatment of men diseases, as well as highlighting scientific research on men's metabolic diseases, sexual disorders and infertility.


He added: "The campaign and the associated exhibition are an important addition to the SSMH's achievements in the field of men's health in the Kingdom. The exhibition includes a group of men's health specialists and students to provide direct consultations disseminating the health culture related to men's health, to ensure the delivery of the SSMH's vision and mission at the desired level and to inform visitors and participants about the latest scientific findings on everything related to diseases that can strike men and ways of prevention and treatment.

 

Prof. Saleh toured the scientific corners and pavilions of the exhibition. He pointed to the obesity corner, where a body fat measuring device is available to all visitors, the diabetes corner, which provides diabetes screening service for visitors, the prostate diseases corner specialized in the causes of prostate diseases and the most important associated diseases and ways of treatment and prevention. He also toured the andrology corner, which aims to raise awareness of the andrology causes and methods of diagnosis and treatment, as the corner provides scientific questionnaires to detect the andrology diseases and sexual disorders.


With regard to the campaign's media and awareness-raising program, which runs throughout November, Prof. Saleh said: "In addition to the first awareness-raising exhibition, the campaign's program includes the Riyadh Men's Health Club, which is held at the Sheraton Hotel - Riyadh, the 2nd Scientific Forum for Men's Health which witnesses the SSMH's participation in Spain, in addition to media and educational activities that will be launched through the visual, audio and print media and social media platforms, in addition to awareness-raising videos for men.


The inauguration ceremony and the campaign's launch were attended by Chief Executive Officer of the King Saud University Medical City (KSUMC), Dr. Abdul Rahman Bin Mohammed Al-Muammar, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Dr. Khalid Bin Ali Fouda, in addition to a large gathering of the University's scientific and managerial leaders, students of the Faculty of Medicine and a number of interested people from different sectors of the society.

 

The exhibition is open to the interested public from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm and lasts until Wednesday, November 6th. Visitors can view medical and preventive bulletins and can also have diabetes check-up, measurement of body fat percentage and obesity index and benefit from some health guidelines provided by experts in men's health and students at the Faculty of Medicine.
